Spotify Premium Individual ranked across the countries we track, in local currency, US dollars and share of monthly income.

The cheapest Spotify Premium country is India, where an Individual plan costs ₹139 a month, about $1.45. Measured against income, though, the lightest bill is in Singapore.

Over a year the gap adds up: $17 in India against $206 in the United Kingdom. We don't currently hold Spotify prices for Hong Kong, Japan and Thailand, so they are not ranked. Family, Duo and Student plans are not covered here; the Spotify price page tracks Premium Individual in every country we follow.

One price tag, three currencies

Look at the local prices and a pattern jumps out: the United States, Germany and the United Kingdom all pay 12.99, each in their own currency. The number on the price tag is identical; the dollar cost runs from $12.99 to $17.17. Spotify, like most subscription services, sets a tidy local number for each market and leaves it alone between price rises, so the exchange rate decides who pays more in real terms.

India is the clearest case of a market-specific price. At ₹139, Premium there is priced to compete for a huge number of subscribers on far lower incomes, alongside a large free tier. The Gulf is the less obvious bargain: Saudi Arabia ($6.40) and the United Arab Emirates ($6.53) pay well under the US price of $12.99, despite high average incomes.

Cheap is not the same as affordable

Ranked by share of monthly income instead of dollars, the order changes. Singapore comes first, with Premium taking just 0.14% of an average month’s income. India, the cheapest in dollars, ranks #9 of 9 on this measure, at 0.63%, the heaviest burden of any country we track. In dollars, the dearest country pays 11.8 times the cheapest; as a share of income the spread is 4.6 times. Regional pricing narrows the affordability gap, but it does not close it. The affordability index applies the same measure to Netflix, phones and food, and our where streaming is cheapest guide puts Spotify next to Netflix.

Spotify next to Netflix

Spotify is not always the cheaper of the two big subscriptions. Against Netflix’s cheapest plan in each country, which is the ad-supported tier where one exists, Spotify Premium costs less in 4 of the 9 countries where we have both prices. The gap is widest in the United Arab Emirates, where Spotify costs $6.53 against $9.53 for Netflix Basic. Spotify is the dearer of the two in Canada, Australia, the United States, Germany and the United Kingdom, where Netflix's “Standard with ads” plan undercuts it. Every Netflix plan is on the Netflix price page.

What changed since our first snapshot

None of the 9 countries has had a local price change since July 3, 2026. The biggest move in dollar terms was in Germany, down 2.2%, entirely because of the exchange rate. If you are comparing over time, watch both numbers: a local price rise is Spotify’s decision, a dollar move usually isn’t.

Why signing up through another country rarely works

A large gap invites the obvious question. Spotify ties the plan to your account country and your payment method, and its terms expect you to live where you sign up. A VPN might show you another country’s price, but a card from your own country usually won’t be accepted for it, and accounts that don’t match can lose Premium or be suspended.
