Petrol price in all countries in Indian rupees (2026)
Every country's pump price converted to rupees per litre at today's exchange rate, so you can see exactly where India sits in the world.
Converted at today’s rate of ₹95.91 per US dollar, petrol costs about ₹108.09 a litre in India, which makes India the #33 cheapest of 170 countries. The cheapest petrol in the world is in Libya at roughly ₹2.21 a litre and the most expensive is in Hong Kong at ₹423.14. The full list of every country in rupees is below, built from GlobalPetrolPrices data retrieved 2026-10-13.
Where India sits in the world
India is cheaper than 137 countries and more expensive than 32, which puts it among the cheapest 20% of countries for petrol. The world median, the price in the middle of all 170 countries, is ₹148.75 a litre, so India is below it by 27%.
That may surprise anyone who has watched pump prices climb at home. Indian petrol feels expensive because a large share of the price is tax: the central government charges excise duty, and each state adds its own VAT, which is why the price in Mumbai differs from Delhi or Chennai. The figure here is a single national average, so your city may be a few rupees above or below it. But measured in rupees against other countries, most of the world pays more, especially Europe and the rich city-states of Asia.
India’s neighbours, in rupees
Among South Asian and nearby countries in the dataset, 2 are cheaper than India (the Maldives and Bhutan). Per litre:
- Maldives: ₹99.84 (−8% vs India)
- Bhutan: ₹104.92 (−3% vs India)
- Nepal: ₹124.68 (+15% vs India)
- Bangladesh: ₹128.99 (+19% vs India)
- Afghanistan: ₹130.53 (+21% vs India)
- 🇨🇳 China: ₹132.26 (+22% vs India)
- 🇵🇰 Pakistan: ₹136.28 (+26% vs India)
- Sri Lanka: ₹138.11 (+28% vs India)
- Myanmar: ₹143.96 (+33% vs India)
Nepal and Bhutan buy their fuel largely from India, so their prices tend to track India’s with transport and their own taxes added. Pakistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka set prices through their own state-owned importers and governments. Filling up abroad: the Gulf, the West and Singapore
If you live, work or travel in one of the countries popular with Indians, this is what a 35-litre fill (about a small hatchback’s tank) costs in rupees, against ₹3,783 at home. Fuel is cheaper than in India in Kuwait, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Oman and Bahrain.
- 🇰🇼 Kuwait: ₹32.51/litre, ₹1,138 for 35 litres
- 🇶🇦 Qatar: ₹55.24/litre, ₹1,933 for 35 litres
- 🇸🇦 Saudi Arabia: ₹59.65/litre, ₹2,088 for 35 litres
- 🇴🇲 Oman: ₹59.65/litre, ₹2,088 for 35 litres
- 🇧🇭 Bahrain: ₹62.82/litre, ₹2,199 for 35 litres
- 🇦🇪 United Arab Emirates: ₹111.73/litre, ₹3,911 for 35 litres
- 🇺🇸 United States: ₹117.87/litre, ₹4,125 for 35 litres
- 🇨🇦 Canada: ₹138.87/litre, ₹4,861 for 35 litres
- 🇦🇺 Australia: ₹153.36/litre, ₹5,367 for 35 litres
- 🇳🇿 New Zealand: ₹187.98/litre, ₹6,579 for 35 litres
- 🇬🇧 United Kingdom: ₹222.60/litre, ₹7,791 for 35 litres
- 🇩🇪 Germany: ₹230.75/litre, ₹8,076 for 35 litres
- 🇸🇬 Singapore: ₹236.70/litre, ₹8,284 for 35 litres
The Gulf states sit on vast oil reserves and keep pump prices low by policy; you can see them compared in petrol prices in the Gulf. Western countries and Singapore are far dearer because they tax fuel heavily, but salaries there are also several times higher, so a rupee price is not the same as the burden on a local driver.
A note on the exchange rate
Every number on this page is a foreign price in US dollars converted to rupees at one day’s rate (source: open.er-api.com, retrieved 2026-10-13). When the rupee moves, every foreign price moves with it in rupee terms, even if nothing changed at the pump. Since 2026-07-03, the rupee has gone from ₹95.39 to ₹95.91 per dollar. That 0.5% weakening alone makes fuel abroad about 0.5% dearer for anyone paying in rupees.
